A 2-year-old boy was found wandering down the street all alone in a Phoenix neighborhood Thursday morning. Police say the boy's parents left him at home with a 1-year-old baby.
The baby's dad went to drop mom off at work, leaving the 2-year-old and 1-year-old home alone in the area of 7th St and Dunlap, according to police.
They were supposed to be sleeping, but somehow the 2-year-old got out.
Police say the toddler wandered down the street before a neighbor saw him and called 911, about 8:15 a.m.
Teresa Cadena lives in the neighborhood and was surprised the little boy didn't get hurt. She says there's always lot of traffic in the morning. Desert View School is a block away.
"I don't care how much of an emergency it is, you find somebody to watch your kid," says Cadena. "Constantly I see cars just flying by."
Police cited the boy's parents for child neglect. It's a misdemeanor.
"They were very sorry," said Phoenix Police Sgt. Rich Cosenza. "Explained to them that it's pretty serious and they need to make sure that they're home with their child and if they need to leave, they need to take their child with them."
Everyone is just thankful the 2-year-old is safe and sound.
"I know everybody's jobs are important and I know what it's like, you got that ride you got to do, but you're kids are important," says Cadena.
The boy's parents got a ticket, but weren't arrested. Police believe this was a poor decision the parents can learn from.
