City adds materials to recycling list

Posted: Updated:

All those aluminum baking tins and pie plates from your holiday parties won't go to waste anymore. Austin residents can now recycle them.

Starting today curbside customers at Austin Resource Recovery can recycle more in their blue trash bins. In addition to the usual glass and plastic you can now add clean aluminum baking tins, trays and pie plates. Clean balled aluminum foil 2 inches or larger can also be recycled and there's no extra cost.

This is all part of the city's goal to divert 90 percent of waste from the area's landfills by 2040.

"The contracts that we recently signed with Balcones and TBS have allowed us to add a new recyclable item each year and this is our new recyclable item," said Director of Austin Resource Recovery Bob Gedert.

The change comes at the launch of the Austin Resource Recovery's "Recycle Right" campaign to help Austinites learn how and what to recycle.
