Ex-patient puts TVs in 350 rooms at NY hospital

Posted: Updated:

BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A Buffalo hospital will no longer charge for televisions after a former patient put new flat-screens in 350 patient rooms.

The $195,000 Thanksgiving eve gift to Erie County Medical Center came from Russell Salvatore, who owns a hotel and restaurant in a Buffalo suburb. Salvatore says he was impressed with the care he got at ECMC when he broke his ankle and wanted to give back to the hospital.

Before receiving the 26-inch televisions, ECMC defrayed costs by charging patients a fee to have a TV in their rooms.
