Whether it's the road or runway, millions of Texans will travel this Thanksgiving weekend.
Austin Bergstrom International Airport is expecting 36,000 people to pass through the terminal Wednesday.
"It's going to be really busy," said Jim Halbrook, spokesperson for ABIA. What will work in flier's favor? All the measures the airport put in place for Formula 1 race weekend will be used to help with the holiday crowds. Extra TSA screeners will be on hand to make sure a fourth security checkpoint is running at maximum capacity.
Monday, after the race, the airport says 21,000 people passed through ABIA. Today, airport officials anticipate accommodating 36,000 passengers.
Security checkpoints opened early at 3:30 a.m. By 5:15, lines were shorter to get through security than to pick up a boarding pass.
Halbrook urges travelers to arrive at least two hours before scheduled departure times.
"Check your path to the airport because traffic can be busy on the roadways," said Halbrook.
The holiday travel weekend starts Wednesday and ends Sunday.
