US Airways flight attendants voted Tuesday to authorize a strike.
It's the first step that could eventually lead to them walking off the job -- although that won't happen during the busy thanksgiving travel weekend, and it most likely wouldn't happen during the Christmas travel season.
The flight attendants have been operating under the same contract they had before US Airways merged with America West back in 2005. The flight attendant groups still don't work together.
This vote does not mean attendants will be hitting the picket lines any time soon -- it just gives them the option to do so if they do not come up with an agreement.
Flight attendants hope today's strike vote will force the airline to negotiate with them.
"There's numerous sticking points but they all boil down to economics, whether it's wages, benefits, different packages," says Deborah Volpe, President, Association of Flight Attendants.
"They wanted to see an entire package that recognizes the contribution to the profits of the airline."
A spokesperson for US Airways told FOX 10: "We were very close to getting an agreement with our flight attendants in September and we applaud the union leadership and negotiating committee for reaching an agreement and working hard to ratify that agreement."
