12-year-old author publishes 1st book

Posted: Updated:

You could say Lalae Mozie is an old soul, but at only 12-years-old, she's finished her first book.

But this book isn't what most children her age read about, like Twilight or The Hunger Games -- this book is about The Holocaust.

"I wrote about World War II because I was always very interested in history," she said.  "Just the cruelty the Nazis could do to humans just like them and how they could live with themselves."

Her book, Merely Alive, took two years to write and it's sold at Barnes and Noble and Amazon.com.  The 68 page novel is meant for a younger audience -- her peers -- so they too can learn more.

"I like writing because it gives me a chance to immerse myself into something I would like to be or learn more about it and get away from all of my stress," said Mozie.

The Phoenix Country Day School student started writing in second grade.  This is her first published book and she has a message for young, aspiring authors like herself.

"If you really set your mind to anything, anything is possible and you should just go for it, you have nothing to lose and you miss 100 percent of the shots you don't take."
