Think you're planning a Thanksgiving meal for a crowd? HEB expects 14,000 people to sit down for a hot turkey dinner at its 23rd annual Feast of Sharing dinner on Tuesday.
Empty seats will start to fill up as soon as the doors at the Palmer Event Center open at 4:00 p.m. The meal would not be possible without the help of the 1200 volunteers who have donated their time to ensure Austin residents can enjoy a hot Thanksgiving meal.
Preparations started Monday as soon as HEB's mobile kitchen pulled into town.
Danny Florez oversees the Feast of Sharing for HEB in Texas and Mexico. This holiday season the company will give away 250,000 hot meals. He's worked on plans for the event in Austin for months and says the meal is a way to give back to the community that HEB serves.
"Really the most important part is for us to serve the community," explained Flores who invites everyone to the table. He hopes everyone leaves with a smile on their face and a full stomach.
Doors open at 4:00 p.m. and close at 8:00 p.m. Free parking is available at the Palmer Events Center.
