There's no school Friday for Del Valle Independent School District students. The school district is calling it an "F1 holiday". But not everyone is okay with the special day.
With "Formula 1" kicking off this weekend, Del Valle Independent School District is taking off.
Joanna Campos lives in Garfield, which is in Del Valle. She is a mother with children in the school district.
She works from home. But some parents she says have full time jobs and no one to look after their kids.
The school district is concerned for them, too. That's why Celina Bley with Del Valle ISD says they're making Friday a holiday.
"I'm just concerned for them and I know a lot in the Hispanic Community that don't speak English don't have a voice at all. Breaks my heart," said Campos."
"We're just unsure what type of traffic we're going to get. We need to make sure that our students can get safely to school but not just students but our staff members," said Bley.
It's too late for a change to be made now, but if parents want to voice their concerns and possible solutions, the school district suggests they tell faculty at their child's school.
