An organization salutes and thanks local troops and their families by filling their stomachs and their hearts on Thanksgiving.
Turkey for Troops unfolded Sunday at the 52nd Street Armory in Phoenix.
A bag of potatoes, dinner rolls, loaves of bread, a sports drink, and a gift card. That's what "Thank you" sounds like for veterans and their families this Thanksgiving season.
"They just have to show up and we provide them with a food box and a gift card so they can go get a turkey," said Kathy Pearce with Arizona Heroes to Hometowns.
Kathy Pearce organized Turkey for Troops for the fourth year. She says it's her way of giving back.
"Me, I'm just happy to serve those who serve our country and it's just rewarding to know in some way we're helping them have T-day dinner and enjoy holidays with their families," said Pearce.
The Turkey to Troops Event provides Thanksgiving fixings for wounded veterans, families of those deployed and other military branches.
The food comes from St. Mary's and other local food banks.
Pearce knows for some veterans and families this event ensures a happier Thanksgiving.
"Yes, and families of deployed and our other service members that would probably go without or just not have the same quality dinner, and we're just happy and grateful we can provide that for them," said Pearce.
