Earth and Space Exploration Day

TEMPE, Ariz. -

An up-close look at science -- over a thousand people gathered at the Earth Space Exploration event at the Interdisciplinary Science and Technology building.

The Arizona State University run event went on with a bang.

Families learned about earth and space.

"Making own craters, learn how it's made on moon..velocity and the mass hot chocolate," said Stacey Townsend, who brought her children to the event.

People were learning about science on this chilly November day.

"It's beautiful and it's cool, wind blowing..I love it," said James Batson.

Batson brought his 10-year-old son Avery, who has high hopes for space exploration.

"I want to explore Mars and find life on it," said Avery.

They took advantage of the solar observation opportunity.

"The telescope you could see the sun and black specks and I guess it was the sunspots," said James.

Others like Kathy Brown came with their own collections.

"They are just strange, we came down to see what the mineral content is," she said.

ASU students helped people identify their rocks or craters, showed them fossils and neat science experiments.  It was a fun, free day for families in Tempe.
