Out of respect Earl Campbell did not do interviews about eh death of Darrell Royal until he talked to Royal's wife Edith on Thursday. On Friday he recalled some of his times with Royal during a speaking engagement in Houston.
Their relationship began nearly 50 years ago when Royal recruited Campbell to be the wishbone fullback at the University of Texas. Campbell would go on to win the Heisman Trophy one year after Royal retired from coaching.
