Cassie Gannis is proud to represent the valley and women in this weekend NASCAR race. She loves being able to race in her back yard, and is proud to be the only woman in her race.
NASCAR is at Phoenix International Raceway in Avondale this weekend.
In the pit for practice time, the fast cars roar by. The sound and the speed makes your heart race and adrenaline rush.
But inside number 22, college student Cassie Gannis is calm and cool. Her nerves are at ease even when topping speeds of 130 mph.
This is only a practice run for Gannis before her big race this weekend. The pit crew is working out the last kinks.
"It feels great. The track is a little bit loose to me but it's because there is no sun out right now… I'm a little bit nervous yeah."
The 21-year-old is getting familiar with the track.
"I've made practice runs here, but not actually raced here," she says.
Gannis is proud to say she is the only woman in the KNN West Series Race.
"Right now I'm the only female in this race. It feels good to be the only female. It's good to be out here in my home town being the only female."
Gannis encourages parents to get their daughters out on the track. She advises them to start with go karts.
