AUSTIN, Texas (AP) -- Democratic U.S. Rep. Lloyd Doggett has won re-election and will represent a new congressional district in Central Texas.
Doggett defeated former San Marcos Mayor Susan Narvaiz on Tuesday.
Doggett switched to the new 35th Congressional District after the lines of his old district were redrawn to include more Republicans. The 35th is a solidly Hispanic district that stretches from Austin to San Antonio.
Nearly half of the district was represented by Doggett under the old voting map.
Doggett is a former justice on the Texas Supreme Court who was first elected to Congress in 1994.
