A look at upcoming events and stories that will be talked about in Arizona:
CLOSE SENATE RACE
Pundits once considered Arizona as safely Republican in the race to replace retiring GOP Sen. John Kyl. The race didn't go according to script. Former Surgeon General Richard Carmona is fighting for the seat against Republican Rep. Jeff Flake. The race is real close.
It hasn't been an easy road to re-election for Sheriff Joe Arpaio, who has faced accusations that he has ignored many of the law enforcement duties he was hired to do. But the self-proclaimed toughest sheriff in America has countered with millions of dollars in TV ads in attempt to get another term.
WHAT ABOUT GIFFORDS?
Former Rep. Gabrielle Giffords cast her vote on Monday with a former staffer who replaced her in Congress, Rep. Ron Barber. Her reaction to the outcome of election will be closely watched in Tucson as Barber runs for a full term. Giffords is from Tucson, and the president visited her after she was shot nearly two years ago.
It's not every election that ballot measures attract big-money, out-of-state spending. But a proposed sales tax increase and a major change to the state's election system have done just that. Look to see how the propositions are faring to determine how effective the spending has been.
The Arizona Legislature has been at the forefront of the conservative movement in recent years. But will Republicans who rule the Legislature lose seats? It could happen under newly redrawn legislative boundaries, but the GOP is favored to maintain its majorities.
