More than half a ton of marijuana was found in an abandoned sport utility vehicle near Interstate 8 Monday.

Tucson Border Patrol Agents found an abandoned Chevy Tahoe filled with 1,097 pounds of marijuana worth more than $548,500.

The agents have been working with U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement and Pinal County Sheriff's deputies in the Vekol Valley area.

Agents and officers searched the area for suspects but made no arrests.

The marijuana was turned over to the Drug Enforcement Administration and the SUV, reported stolen out of Phoenix, was given to the Department of Public Safety.
