CHANDLER, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a crash that killed a Chandler man last month likely was due to his medical problems.
Chandler police have identified the victim as 49-year-old Stuart Kadel. His badly burned body was discovered in a charred car about 4 a.m. on Oct. 20.
City police and fire crews responded to a car fire call near the entrance to Chandler High School and discovered the vehicle's tires spinning from Kadel's foot being stuck on the accelerator.
The East Valley Tribune says authorities discovered Kadel's body inside, strapped in by the seatbelt and burned from the waist up.
The Maricopa County Medical Examiner's Office noted that Kadel had a couple of medical conditions that likely caused him to lose control of the vehicle before it struck a fence.
