Man allegedly kills girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter

A man was arrested Tuesday for allegedly killing his girlfriend's 2-year-old daughter.

Deputies said 25-year-old Jose Zenaido Avevedo was at home with his girlfriend's young daughter while she was at work. Officers were called when the little girl was unconscious.

The 2-year-old was flown to a hospital with severe head trauma.

When asked about what happened to the 2-year-old, deputies said Acevedo gave multiple and varying accidental excuses that weren't consistent with the little girl's injuries.

Acevedo was arrested for child abuse and aggravated assault booked into a Coconino county Detention Facility on Monday.

The little girl was pronounced dead on Tuesday and Acevedo was arrested for homicide.

Detectives are continuing to investigate.
