PD: 9 people living in vacant home, stealing utilities

SURPRISE, Ariz. -

Surprise Police on Wednesday arrested 9 people who they say had been squatting in a vacant home and stealing utilities from neighbors.

Officers were patrolling the area of Grand Ave and Dysart when a concerned person approached them and asked for help.

The victim showed police that the electricity, water, and gas utilities were being illegally diverted from a neighboring residence.

Officers found the people inside were living there unlawfully without the permission of the property owner. The residence was vacant. 

Drugs and drug paraphernalia were also found in the home, police say.

Nicholas Dylewsky, 45, was arrested and booked into Maricopa County 4th Avenue Jail on charges of burglary, theft of services, and criminal damage.  Nicole Ortiz, 20, was arrested for possession of drug paraphernalia and trespassing. 

Rosendo Escobedo, 34, John Pedicord, 24, Christy Suffal, 33, Joseph Hernandez, 23, Vanessa Gonzales, 20, Joe Tovar, 39, and Lewis Escobedo, 55 were also arrested for trespassing.
