Governor Perry awarded a Purple Heart to a Texas Army National Guard member on Thursday.
Staff Sergeant Patrick Rogers is a member of the Austin based 36th Combat Aviation Brigade, 36th Infantry Division. He's being recognized for his heroism in combat, while serving in Afghanistan.
In addition to the Purple Heart, Rogers will receive the Air Medal and the Combat Medic Badge.
He lives in Galveston with his wife Shelby and their three sons.
