Patrick WilliamsCHINO VALLEY, Ariz. (AP) -- Authorities in northern Arizona say a Chino Valley man has pleaded "guilty except insane" in the murder of a female neighbor almost two years ago.
Yavapai County prosecutors say 20-year-old Patrick Williams entered his plea Tuesday to second-degree murder, armed burglary and armed robbery in the case.
Authorities say the victim, 67-year-old Stella Streppa, was stabbed 23 times and suffered broken ribs, a broken jaw and a shattered skull. Her body was found wrapped in a carpet inside a closet of her Chino Valley home on Dec. 4, 2010.
Prosecutors say Williams has a Nov. 30 commitment hearing in Yavapai County Superior Court and faces a sentence ranging from 16 to 38 years in the Arizona State Hospital.
Williams originally was charged with first-degree murder, burglary and theft of means of transportation.
