ASU students hold non-partisan voter education rally

Updated:
TEMPE, Ariz. -

With just a few days left until the election, people around Arizona are gearing up for November 6 -- when voters will decide on who will be the next President, who will represent them and several important issues.

Wednesday, there was a "get out the vote" rally on the ASU campus.

"Our goal is to make sure that the student voice is more powerful," says Ryan Sperrazza of the ASU Students Association, which put on the rally.

"To bring candidates from both sides of the aisle together, so really to work toward a common cause which is the student vote."

The Student's Association has been active throughout this election season to get students to the polls.

"Here at ASU Tempe campus our interns managed to register 2,000 to vote," says Sperrazza.

Some of those newly registered to vote already cast ballots. The Maricopa County Recorder's Office expected 36 percent of voters to take part in early voting, putting the recorder's office to work.

"This morning we started counting the early ballots," says Helen Purcell, Maricopa County Recorder.

It's a lengthy process that will keep the recorder's office busy for days.

"We'll count every day up until probably the morning of election day."

In the end it will be worth it, giving Arizonans an idea of where they stand shortly after the polls close.

"The first results you see election night at eight o'clock will be the results of the early ballots that we have counted up to that point."

While early ballots are being counted, the Secretary of State's Office held a mock election Wednesday, making sure you know the results as soon as possible election night.
