The HallahansPEORIA, Ill. (AP) - A man captured after spending 12 years on the run from accusations he and his wife bilked investors out of about $1.7 million has pleaded guilty.
The Journal Star in Peoria reports Nelson Hallahan pleaded guilty to failure to appear. His plea Wednesday in federal court comes a week after his wife, Janet Hallahan, pleaded guilty to the same charge.
The Hallahans pleaded guilty in January 2000 to federal charges of conspiracy to commit mail and bank fraud and conspiracy to commit money laundering. Then they disappeared.
The Hallahans were arrested May 5 in Arizona by authorities acting on a tip from "America's Most Wanted."
They are scheduled for sentencing Nov. 28. They face decades in prison on all charges.
