MESA, Ariz. -
The Mesa Police department is welcoming its newest K-9 companion, Kira.
The department got the k-9 after receiving a $10,000 donation from the Firehouse Subs Public Safety Foundation.
"The officer happens to be 2 years old… she will be very useful to us in our crime fighting models. The dog is actually a drug detection dog," says Mesa Police Chief Frank Milstead.
The new k-9 replaces another police dog that retired. She's already on the job.
Officers say Kira's made a few drug finds during her short time on the force.
