Air and ground transportation is at a standstill in and out of the east coast due to Hurricane Sandy, leaving a lot of travelers stranded.
Lysa Nessler and her husband live in the Anthem area north of Phoenix. They spent a long time planning their 15-year anniversary trip and picked Newport, Rhode Island because it is a charming town.
They were looking forward to staying at a hotel that was built in the late 1700s, but mother nature took over -- Hurricane Sandy literally washed away those plans.
It isn't exactly how Lysa imagined the trip -- stuck in a hotel with no power until Thursday along with surrounding stores and restaurants closed due to the storm damage.
The soonest an airline could get them out is Thursday. They hoped to leave on Monday.
Nessler says the only place that's remained open throughout the storm is Dunkin Donuts.
