TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - A Tucson man has been sentenced to life in prison without parole in the death of his girlfriend's ex-boyfriend.
Pima County prosecutors say 33-year-old Scott Mediz also was sentenced Monday to a concurrent sentence of almost 16 years in prison for kidnapping.
Mediz was convicted last month of first-degree murder and kidnapping.
Authorities say Mediz brutally beat 30-year-old Jerry Lewis when he arrived at Sara Golden's home on Nov. 21, 2010.
They say Lewis was later stuffed into a car and died of positional asphyxiation.
Mediz's lawyer told jurors that Lewis was armed with a box cutter and a bat and Mediz acted in self-defense.
The Arizona Daily Star (http://bit.ly/Rk4ZEX) says the 33-year-old Golden is scheduled to stand trial Dec. 4. She's accused of luring Lewis to her home.
