A 41-year-old Phoenix woman was stabbed to death Friday night, allegedly at the hands of her husband.
It happened just before 8 p.m. at a home near Greenway Parkway and Cave Creek Road.
Police say that the suspect was involved in a verbal altercation with his wife, 41-year-old Maria Gonzalez, that quickly escalated.
The victim's husband allegedly began physically assaulting her and stabbed her with a knife just outside the residence.
Officers arrived and Gonzalez was rushed to a nearby hospital, where she died as a result of her injuries.
The suspect was also injured, although it's unclear how he came to be injured. He was taken to a hospital in serious condition, and his name is not yet available. He will be charged once he is released.
Three children that the couple shared were in the house at the time of the assault. There were also 5 more children belonging to Gonzalez from previous relationships at the home. Their ages range from 6 to 24.
Police say they tried to intervene at one point.
