Man charged for downtown food trailer attack

Posted: Updated:

Austin Police have charged a man they say is responsible for a brutal attack caught on video at a downtown pizza trailer.

Lambert Borgardt, 28, has been charged with aggravated assault.

In the early morning hours of September 23 the two victims Andrew Oppleman and Nick Soret were eating outside the Roppolo's Pizza food trailer near 4th Street and Colorado.

Surveillance video shows a suspect that police say is Borgardt arguing with the two men and then fighting with them. Both of the victims were hit several times by the suspect.

The victims were taken to the hospital after the attack. Oppelman lost five teeth and Soret suffered a broken nose and a concussion.

The two victims had just left Austin's gay pride festivities and believe they were attacked because they are gay. Austin Police have said that the attack was unprovoked but cannot say if it was a hate crime.
