'The Four Seasons' sculptures make debut at Desert Botanical Garden

Posted: Updated:

20 workers have been putting up unusual sculptures this week at the Desert Botanical Gardens.

Huge sculptures of four different faces represent the four seasons. Each face looks like it's made out of flowers and branches, or fruit and vegetables.

But these are all made of fiberglass. Each one is about 15 feet tall.

This artwork is called "Spring Summer Winter Fall." Artist Phillip Haas says he was inspired by renaissance paintings.

"I love the idea of the imagery in the work, which is renaissance European imagery, coming to the new world so you have this European iconic image, emblazoned among the cactus," says Haas.

These works will remain at the Desert Botanical Garden until April.

They've already appeared at the Garden Of Versailles and the National Gallery of Art in DC.
