Grandparents raising their grandkids is not a new concept. But how about a community specifically designed for these kind of families?
Folks attended the opening of "Grandfamilies Place" on Thursday. The new community just opened near 18th Street and Roeser.
It used to be an outdated complex and needed serious re-modeling. Now it's updated with 60 units for grandparents living with their grandkids.
Local lawmakers say they're hearing great feedback from families.
"Certainly having a place where people can call home sweet home, start over to have a new beginning as one of the boys described it, he described it as a little piece of heaven, well we like that," says State Senator Leah Landrum-Taylor.
"Grandfamilies Place" has got a pool, a playground and an area for barbecues too.
