First responders put their skills to the test during a mass casualty drill northeast of the valley on Wednesday.
They staged a bus crash near the Salt River, at Bush Highway and Usery Pass Road.
The scenario: 16 passengers on a tubing trip when the bus tips over.
Some of the mock victims died, the others were hurt.
Deputies teamed up with Rural Metro Fire and the Tonto National Forest Service to rescue the victims and treat their injuries.
"We get a lot of tourist groups. Now thankfully this hasn't happened this year, you know we're not looking for it to happen next year, we're not wanting it to happen, but we're prepared and that's the message we want to send here today," said Maricopa County Sheriff's Sergeant Brandon Jones.
During the drill, the first responders shared what they learned, what worked, and what they could do differently in the event of a real emergency.
