Patagonia deputy marshal suspended after crash

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - Authorities say a Patagonia deputy marshal has been suspended pending the outcome of a DUI investigation.

Tucson police say 37-year-old Johnny Tynes was booked into the Pima County jail Wednesday on suspicion of felony criminal damage.

Tynes allegedly drove into a utility pole, destroying it and knocking out power to an area of Tucson just before 5:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Police say the officer on-scene "noticed signs consistent with alcohol intoxication" and initiated a DUI investigation.

Depending on the outcome, police say additional charges could be filed.

The Arizona Daily Star says Patagonia Marshal Joe Patterson says he's greatly upset about the situation and has talked to Tynes about it.

Tynes wasn't injured in the single-vehicle crash. Authorities didn't immediately know Wednesday afternoon whether Tynes has legal representation yet.
