Caregiver allegedly steals, pawns elderly woman's jewelry

A caregiver at an assisted living facility was arrested for allegedly stealing and pawning an elderly patient's jewelry.

Deputies said 63-year-old Sylvia Delgado Cruz stole an 86-year-old woman's jewelry and pawned it at a local shop.

The victim told her daughter she was missing nine jewelry items worth several thousand dollars.

Detectives investigated who had access to the woman's residence and found that Cruz pawned some items the victim reported missing to a local pawn shop.

Deputies confronted Cruz and she told investigators four items belonging to the victim were at her house.

After searching Cruz's home, deputies found the victim's jewelry items.

Cruz was arrested and booked on charges of theft and trafficking stolen property.
