A man admitted to smashing three vehicle's windows and setting a fire at a hotel near Jefferson and 24th Streets on Sunday.

The suspect, 62-year-old Marvin Leonard Hicks, allegedly smashed the back windows of three vehicles with a rock because he was angry with the business they belonged to, he told police.

The damage to the vehicles is over $1000.

Police said afterward he went to a hotel and started a fire using pages from a phonebook he found in the room.

The suspect then ran to a pay phone and called 911 to report that he started the fire.

Officers said they found Hicks at a pay phone and took him into custody.

Hicks told police "he has urges to start fires that he is no longer able to control."

Police said Hicks told them he is seriously mentally ill and hadn't taken his medication.

He also told police he will flee if released and has done so before. Officers found he has committed arson in the past and served time for his crimes.
