A new stretch of highway opens Wednesday in Central Texas that will allow drivers to reach speeds never before legal in the state.
The SH 130 toll road has a speed limit of 85 miles per hour, making it the fastest posted speed limit in the country. The 41-mile stretch of road connects Austin to San Antonio, and is intended to relieve congestion on I-35. The toll road is an extension of Texas 130 which connects Georgetown to South Austin.
The public-private toll road is dubbed as the quickest way from Austin to San Antonio. The trip will cost cars .15 cents a mile. State and local leaders will join together for a ribbon cutting at 10:30 and the roadway will open up to drivers in the afternoon.
Motorists can enjoy the new portions of SH 130 for free until November 11th.
