Cases dismissed vs Arizonans who drove into washes

Posted: Updated:

TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The cases against two Tucson women who drove into flooded washes with children in their cars have been dismissed.

Pima County prosecutors say the case against 29-year-old Edna K. Encinas was dismissed because the evidence was insufficient to prove the charge beyond a reasonable doubt.

The case against 18-year-old Tiffany N. Sherman was dismissed to give authorities more time to investigate.

Sherman was arrested Sept. 6 on suspicion of child abuse after she got stuck in a wash with her 1-month-old child.

Authorities say road closure signs were clearly visible and in the middle of the roadway.

Encinas was arrested Sept. 7 on suspicion of child abuse.

The Arizona Daily Star ( says she drove past road closure signs and got stuck in a flooded wash with her three children.
