A university of Texas student walking around with a training rifle Friday prompted dozens of onlookers to call police and forced the university to issue a text alert.
The University of Texas Police Department sent a campus wide text at 3:59 p.m. alerting campus of a possible armed subject with a shotgun and gas mask.
Within a few minutes officers found the student at The Sports Center with a weapon and gas mask. The officers recognized quickly that the weapon was a training rifle.
The student was taken in for questioning by UT police.
UTPD sent a campus wide alert canceling six minutes after the first warning.
