Two of three Yassine brothers convicted in money laundering scheme

A Travis County jury convicted two of the three Yassine brothers for their roles in a money laundering scheme.

Following a week-long trial the jury convicted 40-year-old Mike and 36-year-old Hadi Yassine of one count of conspiracy to commit money laundering. The two brothers were also convicted of three counts and two counts of money laundering, respectively.

The jury found that in 2008 and 2009 Mike and Hadi Yassine used several establishments in downtown Austin to launder over $200,000 in cash, believed to be proceeds of drug trafficking.

Mike and Hadi Yassine will face up to 20 years in federal prison on each count. No sentencing date has been scheduled.

The jury acquitted 39-year-old Mohammed Ali "Steve Austin" Yassine of one count of money laundering. Steve faces two additional federal trials based on separate indictments which allege narcotics trafficking and firearm charges and remains in federal custody.
