MCSO: 5 arrested for human smuggling

Posted: Updated:

Sheriff's deputies have arrested five people on human smuggling charges.

Friday night, a woman reported she was at a gas station when four men, one armed with a gun, forced her at gunpoint to drive a group of illegal immigrants to their destination. Upon further questioning by detectives, the woman admitted she falsified her story, MCSO stated.

The four illegal immigrants in the group said they paid around $2,000 to be smuggled into the U.S., the report alleges. They were heading to Arizona, California and Texas.

The men acknowledged they were from Mexico and Honduras and entered Arizona through Sonoita.

The woman, a U.S. citizen, and the four males were booked into the 4th Ave Jail on charges of felony human smuggling.

Names were not released.
