Local Boy Scouts participants are hoping to get more members of the Hispanic community to join the group.
Today Boy Scouts hosted "Scouting -- Vale la Pena" Festival and Expo at the Sacred Heart Parish in East Austin.
The new "Scout Expo" program is an answer to a challenge by Catholic Bishop, Joe Vasquez.
Scout Leader, Margarito Aranda, says it's a great way to get young people involved, and he hopes to challenge some stereotypes.
"I was in Cub Scouts and then I unfortunately didn't follow through. Looking back on it, I wish I had. But I always looked at it as, 'that's a suburban thing. That's another culture, that's not us.' But I was wrong."
On display at the Expo were things like model camp sites, rope bridges and Dutch oven cooking.
The group hopes to have more expos at other churches in the future.
