WVU Wedding before game

Timing is everything and the Big XII schedule made things a little bit easier for Mountaineer alums Julia Abbott and Greg Comer.

The two tied the knot outside the North Gate at D.K.R. Stadium hours before kick off Saturday.

"We absolutely love college football," Greg Comer and his bride Julia said at the same time.

Julia has always had a love for Texas and wanted to be a Longhorn but decided to stay close to home and attend West Virginia University.

"When we found out the game was October 6th we had to come because it was our one year anniversary so it was perfect," explained Julia.

Many brides shy away from fall weddings because of football season but for Julia and Greg it was clear.

"She came up with the whole thing and planned it," said Julia's dad Mark who walked his daughter down the sidewalk at D.K.R.

"She got married today after 25 years with me it's time to move on," Abbott said with a smile.

The bride's best friend didn't know if she'd follow through with her game day wedding.

"No. We talked about it and it was a crazy idea but two weeks later she booked flights and a caterer," Courtney Ranson said.

"I didn't sacrifice anything because I think it was my idea a little bit and he was all about it," said Julia.

"It's a dream and everyone has been so friendly and 6th street was great. We love Austin but we love the Mountaineers more," said Greg.

Their reception? A tailgate open to all Mountaineer fans in town.

"It's a first for us to do a wedding reception at a Texas tailgate so it's odd," explains Steve Elzade with POW Trailers, "It works, they seem to be a good couple having a good time."

The happy couple received congratulations from complete strangers and say they will never forget this game day

"Win or lose, I won today," said Greg Comer.

The Comers leave from Austin for their honeymoon in Turks and Caicos. They plan on returning to Austin for the 2014 away game.
