An Austin man has been charged after police say he fled from a traffic stop.
On Sept. 27, a police officer noticed 32-year-old Carols Wayne Brooks speeding in a Toyota Corolla through a school zone on Kramer Lane, according to police.
The officer initiated a stop by turning on his lights, but Brooks did not immediately pull over. The officer then turned on his patrol siren and Brooks yelled out the window that "he had to take his child to school because he was late."
The officer then utilized his loud speaker to tell Brooks to pull over. Brooks complied with the officer's demand. Another adult and child were in the car with Brooks and they got out to presumable walk the child to school.
The officer ran a warrant check and discovered Brooks had a warrant for failure to pay child support. While waiting for back-up officers, Brooks sped off. The officer followed him for a short distance, but terminated the pursuit due to Brooks' dangerous driving.
Brooks has been charged with Evading, a third degree felony.
