Neighbors in Round Rock community caught a man stealing an Obama sign from their neighborhood.
Douglas McLean, a Round Rock resident, is an Obama supporter. He hands out campaign signs so his neighbors can put them up in their yard. But someone's been taking them.
"What you'll notice is that's the rear-end of my neighbor's property," said McLean. "That's the sign the guy came and ripped up."
Wednesday night with a camcorder and a digital camera in hand, McLean caught the Obama sign snatcher red handed.
Police issued 39-year-old Jason Koble a citation for theft.
Koble says he did not think the signs had cash value but McLean bought them for $5 a sign.
"I didn't really think of it being private property. I thought they gave those signs away so I was doing what was right," said Koble. "That's why I waited for cops. I didn't think I was stealing."
Koble says he's not a thief.
"I didn't think it was wrong," said Koble.
He says he was just following his Homeowner's Association rules about election signs. But being a republican supporter, he says he wouldn't have removed Romney signs.
"I'm a Republican and I'm voting for Mitt Romney. Moral of the story posting signs when they are not supposed to," said Koble.
"Even if, it was in the street it's my personal property. These signs I paid for," McLean. "If I throw my wallet in the street of you take that, that's a thief."
Koble will appear in court next month. He received a Class C Misdemeanor, which is similar to receiving a speeding ticket.
