TROY, Mich. (WJBK) -
Patrick Mikes, Junior is charged in the murder of his father, Patrick
Mikes, Senior. His younger brother was called to testify Monday at a
preliminary hearing.
"Was it a loving relationship?" the suspect's brother was asked.
"I don't know if I'd call it loving."
"You wouldn't call it loving?"
"I guess not."
The prosecution alleges a violent fight in a Troy home left Mikes, Senior dead during the last weekend of July.
We learned in court there was an argument between the accused and his dad.
"Did the defendant tell you about something that had happened?" the brother was asked.
"Yes. He said he had gotten into an argument with our father."
"Did he tell you that it was that morning?"
"Yes, he did."
"Did the defendant tell you what he and your father got into argument about that morning?"
"Yes, he did."
"What did the defendant tell you about what they got into a fight or an argument about?"
"He said they got into an argument about the credit card."
That credit card meant for gas, the suspect's brother said, was used instead for food and entertainment and Patrick Mikes, Senior was angry and canceled the card.
Mikes, Senior went missing and later was found in a Montrose field 62 miles away just two weeks later.
His brother said Mikes, Junior insisted they wait before calling the cops.
"Because of some experience he'd had in Pittsburgh. They had a friend wander off and they called the police right away and they told them to wait 24 hours, and that's why we waited."
"Did you call your sister?"
"We did not."
"Did you call your grandparents?"
"No."
The Mikes boys' mother passed away about ten years ago after a brain tumor took her life. The defense painted a picture of Patrick Mikes, Junior as a disturbed young man who was reclusive and kept to himself.
"Did you brother ever indicate to you that he would hear voices or he would hallucinate?" the suspect's brother was asked.
"There's one mention of it years ago."
A piece of Mikes, Senior's remains were found in a garbage bag behind the furnace in the basement. The question? Is that where Patrick Mikes, Junior slept during his summer break at home in Troy?
"I'm not entirely certain, but I think he may have been sleeping in the basement." his brother testified.
