A $385 million campaign was kicked off Monday afternoon. It's for a Bond Issue that Austin voters will consider on the upcoming general election ballot.
Supporters of the "Love Austin" bond issued got together in east Austin to sign up on volunteer lists and to collect yard signs.
This is not an all or nothing campaign. Voters will have seven different bonds propositions to consider. Prop 12 –18 deal with transportation, affordable housing, public safety, open space, parks, arts and health care.
Mayor Lee Leffingwell says the to-do list could have totaled more than a billion dollars but that would have triggered a tax hike.
"We don't want to add to that burden so we've formulated a tax package, we deliberately kept it at $385 million so it would not be a tax increase because of these bonds, this is a bond that's within our existing capacity and will not cause a tax increase," said Mayor Leffingwell.
Early voting begins October 22.
