Austin Energy plans to reduce the fuel charge on electric bills by 6 percent effective with October electric bills.
The reduction will save an average residential customer about $1.92. The decrease almost offsets the $2 per bill increase an average customer would see during the eight non-summer months due to the electric rate increase that takes effect with October bills.
The fuel charge will also have a new name beginning with October bills. It will be called the power supply adjustment.
The reduction is due to lower fuel costs along with the excellent performance of Austin Energy power plants during the summer.
