High school football rankings: September 17

Check out this week's FOX 7 High school Football Rankings.

Class 5A

1.Lake Travis (3-0, defeated Westwood 28-24)

--In a game that was just as costly for Lake Travis as it was close, the Cavs gets the daylights scared out of them by the Warriors and lose receive Zach Austin to injury in the process. A 4th quarter TD pass from Baker Mayfield to Shaun Nixon wins it for LT.

2.Pflugerville (3-0, defeated SA Reagan 34-7)

--The Panthers have been as impressive as anyone in the area through three weeks, winning their first three games by an average of 25 points per game. Their biggest test thus far comes this Friday against Leander, who is ranked in the state's Class 4A Top 10.

3.Westwood (2-1, lost to Lake Travis 28-24)

--Warriors come oh-so-close to pulling off perhaps the upset of the year, leading top-ranked Lake Travis for much of the second half before giving up a touchdown and the lead in the game's final two minutes.

4.Stony Point (2-1, defeated Shoemaker 23-20)

--Tigers get a field goal in the final seconds to get a thrilling road win.

5.Westlake (1-2, lost to A&M Consolidated 35-17)

--Chaps defense gashed for three 4th-quarter TD's, suffer second-straight loss.

 

Class 4A

1.Leander (3-0, defeated Manor 28-7)

--Leading by only a touchdown after three quarters, Lions put Manor away with two 4th quarter scores. Stiff test comes this week at unbeaten 5A Pflugerville.

2.Hays (3-0, defeated Rouse 14-10)

--In a battle of unbeatens, Rebels rally from early 10-0 deficit to move to 3-0.

3.Vista Ridge (3-0, defeated Elgin 41-40)

--After racing to a 21-6 lead in the 1st quarter, Rangers need a late 4th quarter TD to come from behind to win a wild game.

4.Rouse (2-1, lost to Hays 14-10)

--Raiders lose a tight one on the road in battle of unbeaten teams to suffer first loss of the year.

5.Cedar Park (1-2, defeated 5A Harker Heights 10-0)

--TWolves' struggles continue on offense, but defense pitches a shutout in first win of the season.

 

Class 3A

1.Giddings (3-0, defeated Bellville 21-14)

--Joseph Glenn's 66 yard touchdown run breaks 4th-quarter tie to give Buffs tough road win..

2.Liberty Hill (2-1, defeated Smithville 49-13)

--After heart-breaking loss to Giddings to open the season, Panthers have scored 110 points over their last two games.

3.Wimberley (1-2, lost to 4A Dripping Springs 28-13)

--Texans suffer second-straight loss, this time to 4A rival Dripping Springs.

4.La Grange (2-1, defeated Brookshire-Royal 48-0).

--After getting whipped by Marble Falls in Week Zero, the Leopards have responded by outscoring their last two opponents 94-7.

5.Smithville (2-1, lost to Liberty Hill 49-13)

--Tigers humbled on the road by Liberty Hill in a match-up of unbeaten teams..

 

Class 2A/1A/Others

1.Lexington (2-1, defeated Franklin 28-7)

--Eagles bounce back nicely after tough loss to state-ranked Cameron.

2.Mason (3-0, defeated 2A Comfort 48-7)

--RB Rio Schmidt scores four TD's as the Punchers coast after building a 28-0 first quarter lead.

3.Lago Vista (2-1, lost to Refugio 28-12)

--After falling behind 20-0, stubborn Vikings hang in until the final minutes against Class 2A's number-one ranked team.

4.Blanco (2-1, defeated Luling 7-0)

--Second quarter defensive touchdown holds up in hard-earned win for Panthers.

5.Thorndale (2-0, defeated Somerville 54-16)

--Bulldogs cruise after building 41-3 halftime lead.
