FOX 7 H.S. football rankings – September 3rd

Check out where your favorite high school football teams are ranked after the first week of games.

Class 5A

1.Lake Travis (1-0, defeated Converse Judson 47-13)

Forget Lake Travis being introduced to 5A football, On Friday, 5A football was introduced to Lake Travis. The Cavs' debut in their new classification couldn't have gone any better. Behind Baker Mayfield's five TD passes, the Cavaliers, with the help of a loss by state number-one Southake Carroll, should be ranked #1 in the Class 5A state rankings. Not bad for the first week on the new job.

2.Pflugerville (1-0, defeated Bowie 42-14)

Adrian Dilworth's three touchdowns lead the Panthers to season-opening blowout.

3.Westwood (1-0, defeated Austin High 46-21)

The Warriors give new Maroon's coach Mike Rosenthal a forgettable start to his stay at Austin High.

4.Westlake (1-0, defeated Cedar Park 21-7)

After a rough start, new Chaps QB Jordan Severt rebounded to lead Westlake to an impressive win over the 2nd ranked Class 4A team in the state.

5.Stony Point (1-0, defeated Harker Heights 18-3)

The Tiger defense was stout in a positive start for a team looking to bounce back from an uncharacteristically subpar 2011.


Class 4A

1.Leander (1-0, defeated Connally 35-7)

The Lions make a statement in their first game after dropping down from Class 5A.

2.Cedar Park (0-1, lost to Westlake 21-7)

After an early 12-yard touchdown drive, the Timberwolves are stifled by the 5A Chaps in Joe Willis' head coaching debut.

3.Hays (1-0, defeated SA Burbank 57-20)

The Rebels dominate in their opener on the road, now get ready for three-straight home games.

4.Hutto (1-0, defeated LBJ 35-14)

The Hippos still finding a way to score points after the Ryan Higgins-era, thanks to three TDs from AJ Lopez.

5.Vista Ridge (1-0, defeated Bastrop 30-0)

The Rangers dominated from the beginning, with over a hundred yards rushing in the first half from Stedman Mayberry.


Class 3A

1.Wimberley (1-0, defeated Llano 27-26)

A 4th quarter TD run by Kolby Kelley puts Wimberley ahead as the Texans escape with a narrow win.

2.Giddings (1-0, defeated Liberty Hill 32-29)

The Buffs survive a big rushing night from Liberty Hill to open the season with a big win.

3.Liberty Hill (0-1, lost to Giddings 32-29)

179 yards rushing from Cory Ferrell was not enough for the Panthers to overcome Giddings.

4.Smithville (1-0, defeated Lampasas 14-7)

The Tigers got all the points they would need in the first half in an impressive road win against a Badgers team coming off a big year in 2011.

5.Burnet (1-0, defeated Fredericksburg 26-21)

Derek Kiser's short TD pass to Cameron Langley in the 4th quarter gave Burnet a come-from-behind win.


Class 2A/1A/Others

1.Lexington (1-0, defeated Crockett 41-7)

QB Kogan Garrett rolled up over 300 yards in a blowout win for the Eagles.

2.Lago Vista (1-0, defeated DIlley 43-13)

The Vikings get a blowout win in their season-opener.

3.Mason (1-0, defeated Winters 62-20)

The Punchers open defense of their state title the same way the ended last season: by scoring 60 points in a game.

4.Blanco (0-1, lost to Fischer Canyon Lake 26-21)

The Panthers fall short in their season opener against 3A Canyon Lake.

5.Thorndale (1-0, defeated Chilton 44-27)

The Bulldogs have no problem on the road against out manned Chilton.
