AUSTIN, Texas (AP) - Texas quarterback David Ash says he always expected to win the starter's job over teammate Case McCoy.
Ash was named the starter over McCoy last week and spoke to reporters on Monday. He and McCoy split the job last season when Texas finished 8-5 with a Holiday Bowl victory over California.
Ash started six games last season as a freshman but was never able to seize the job outright. He threw four touchdown passes and eight interceptions.
Coach Mack Brown has said McCoy could play when the 15th-ranked Longhorns open the season Saturday against Wyoming.
