The first stop on the FOX 7 Football Fieldtrip takes place at Lake Travis where the Cavilers will be moving up to 5A after winning the past five 4A state titles.
Lake Travis fans are already about the new season and even came out to support the team on Saturday's intra squad scrimmage.
Lake Travis is loaded to make a run at a sixth state title. Quarterback Baker Mayfield, who threw 45 touchdown passes last year, returns with big play receiver Zach Austin. 2012 should be an even bigger season for 1200 yard rusher Shaun Nixon who assumes the all purpose position Colin largesse and Andy Erickson parlayed into college scholarships
"You'll see me line up in trips on the backside and I'll be out in the field more," Nixon said. I mean I'll take snaps behind but I'll be out catching routes."
"A lot of people don't know what he can do but we're out here with him everyday," Baker Mayfield said. "It's kind of normal but if someone comes in and sees him their jaw drops."
The Lake Travis defense is playoff proven and includes cornerback Brock Kenyon, linebacker Luke Hutton ,defensive tackle Spencer Staples and a pair of bookend defensive ends Connor Shannon and Zach Davies
"I definitely feel like we're very close as a defense, like we definitely have each others back," said Zach Davies.
"Every one you win is difficult," Coach Hank Carter said. "We are very blessed to have had the success we've had. We're excited about the kids we have most of our coaching staff remained intact so we're excited about that we feel good about our chances competing in our district we'll see what happens in the playoffs."
