Spice up your burgers

It's still summertime, and Texas residents are still outside grilling burgers and hotdogs. Chef Tiffany Collins-Blackmon, from the Texas Beef Council, joined us on Good Day to show us how to spice up our recipes.

Recipe: Grilled Jalapeno Cheeseburgers


  • 1 lb. 95% lean ground beef
  • 2 tsp. fresh jalapeno pepper, seeded and chopped
  • 1-1/2 tsp. chili powder
  • 1/4 cup crumbled blue cheese
  • 4 thin tomato slices
  • 4 hamburger buns, split, toasted


  1. In medium bowl, combine ground beef and chili powder, mixing lightly but thoroughly.
  2. Place beef in palm of hand and create a bowl shape. Stuff beef with jalapeno and blue cheese. Form beef around the mixture creating a ball. Pat into patties.
  3. Place patties on grid over medium ash-covered coals. Grill uncovered 14-16 minutes or until centers are no longer pink, turning once. Check with a meat thermometer for an internal temperature of 160°F.
  4. Place one slice tomato on bottom half of each bun and top with burger. Close sandwiches and serve.
